The Sacramento Kings have officially parted ways with veteran swingman Arron Afflalo. It was first reported by Shams Charania of The Vertical.
As previously reported, today was the day for the Kings to decide on Afflalo's contract. If he was not released, his $12.5 Million contract for next season would have become fully guaranteed. Instead, Sacramento will only eat $1.5 Million of his contract for next season which was partially guaranteed. According to James Ham of NBC Sports, the Kings will now have $67 Million in cap space to work with starting July 1st.
Arron Afflalo's tenure in Sacramento was all but exciting. His playing time was inconsistent and rumors arose at the beginning of the season that he refused to check into a game when called upon. To be fair, his frustrations with the team were fair. He originally signed with the Kings to team up with DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay in hopes to make a playoff run. But when the Kings changed course at the All-Star break, everything changed. The youth movement began and veterans like Arron were allowed "Planned Rest" for a handful of the last 30 games.
