Ah, the time of year Kings fans look forward to the most: The NBA Draft Lottery.
(Okay, maybe after eleven straight years of dealing with this, it can get kind of old).
However, today is a win overall for the Kings’ organization and us fans, who have dealt with an emotional rollercoaster of a season to say the least. The Kings were able to maintain not only the Pelicans’ pick at #10 (which the Kings received from the DeMarcus Cousins trade back in February, and could’ve gone back to New Orleans if their pick was within the top three), but were also able to move up three picks than previously expected. The Kings’ pick moved into the top three, but the pick was swapped with Philadelphia due to the trade back in 2015 which gave Philadelphia the right to swap with Kings if the Kings’ pick ended up higher, among other aspects of the trade. The Kings were projected to get the #8 pick in the draft and could’ve even lost the pick if their pick to the Bulls (due to J.J. Hickson trade back in back in 2011) fell out of the top ten. Instead, the Kings get the #5 and #10 picks in next month’s draft.
Now that I have confused you and I about these complicated scenarios for one last time, we can finally move on from this weird math and look towards the draft next month! We can begin to speculate what exactly the Kings will do with their picks, which could include: possibly trading one of their picks to move up, keeping their picks, or possibly trading both picks to bring in a high caliber NBA veteran.
The possibilities are endless, and I for one am happy that we can begin talking about these scenarios in the draft instead of doing complicated math equations to figure out where the Kings will even draft. Time to begin scouting and begin speculating who will be the next Kings!
