Youth Movement in Sacramento Looks Strong

Going into Saturday afternoons contest versus the Charlotte Hornets, Kings fans expected the same energy and firepower the team showed Thursday night in the win against Denver. Sadly this wasn't the case. The Kings were down early and often as Charlotte was in control basically for the final 3 quarters. The Kings lost 99-85, and while there weren't many bright spots, there was one that stood out to just about everyone.

In only his 2nd game since entering Coach Joerger's rotation, Skal Labissiere fell 2 points shy of a double-double, finishing with 8 points and 13 rebounds in 23 minutes of play.

With the departures of DeMarcus Cousins, Omri, Casspi, and Matt Barnes, the Kings are suddenly thin at forward. Enter the 20 year old from Haiti. In 37 minutes combined in his last 2 games, Skal has 20 points and 16 rebounds. The energy and athleticism are clearly shown while Skal is on the court. Could this be the Kings PF of the future?

It's not hard to see that Skal definitely needs to gain some weight to take him to his full potential, but once he does, he could be dangerous. Already playing well in his rookie year, Skal will obviously continue to rack up minutes as his NBA game develops.

Kings fans, including myself, are already imagining a big 3 of Buddy Hield, Willie Cauley-Stein , and Skal Labissiere if all 3 can live up to their full potential. Fans were bummed when Cousins was traded and they had every right to be, but what the Kings have here has the potential to be very special. Not even mentioning the potential for 2 1st round draft picks in a very high rated draft class as well as Bogdan Bogdanovic coming over from Serbia next season.

This is a rebuilding process still, so Kings fans will have to stay patient. However, the Kings are already a couple steps ahead of other teams rebuilding as they have quite a few young pieces whose NBA games are still developing. The ceilings for the Kings young guys', especially Skal, are through the roof. And even though the Kings will have many losses like they did this afternoon, there's no lying when we say the future is bright for the Kings. Let's hope this young core stays intact and helps the Sacramento Kings return to relevency.
