What Kings Fans Should Look Forward To In The Near Future

The NBA Trade Deadline has come and gone and the only move the Kings made was the blockbuster DeMarcus Cousins trade that has many Kings fans up in arms. The Kings once again left their fans scratching their heads when no other trades were made before Thursday's deadline. This leaves the Kings with a plethora of SG's and not a lot of forwards. The roster is quite a mess but it's what Kings fans have to deal with the rest of the season.

Before the all-star break, playoffs seemed liked a real possibility for the team that hasn't seen the postseason since 2006. A week later, all that hope is gone. Fans are once again upset and will have to deal with another grueling 2nd half of the season. With no Cousins, little to no hope for playoffs, and most fans upset at the Kings front office, what can we as a fan base be positive about heading forward?

Buddy Hield

Buddy Hield is the 1 player whom the Kings acquired in the New Orleans trade that fans are actually excited about. And they should be. Buddy Hield was a stud in college. In his senior year, Buddy averaged 25 points with 46% 3PT shooting. He's a natural born shooter. Unfortunately this hasn't translated to the NBA quite yet, but he's just a rookie. And with the Kings, despite the overload at the SG position, it seems as if they're going to give Buddy a good amount of minutes as the management seems to be in love with him and see him as a possible building piece for the team.

2 Potential Lottery Picks in 2017 Draft

Kings fans have become used to the terms "picks swaps" and "protected pick" maybe a little too much. Still Kings fans should know what these mean especially with the upcoming 2017 NBA draft. The crazy thing is, the Kings have a chance to have 0 1st round picks, but also, as the heading says, have a chance for 2 lottery picks. It all depends how the standings play out as well as how the NBA lottery system (which I hate BTW) turns out. The Kings will have one 1st round pick for sure as long as New Orleans' pick is outside the top 3. They will keep their own 1st round as long as it is inside the top 10 (otherwise it will go to Chicago). However, if the Kings receive a better 1st round pick than the Philadelphia 76ers, the Sixers have the option to swap picks with Sacramento. I know, confusing, but things will become a lot more clear once the season ends and once the NBA Draft Lottery is over.

Coach Dave Joerger

It has only been 57 games, but personally, Coach Joerger has been my 2nd favorite Kings coach since Rick Adelman (Mike Malone). People may forget the mess of a roster that Joerger lead to the playoffs last season with Memphis. Let's hope the Kings front office allows Dave to stick around, because he will be a critical piece in the rebuilding process. He had a winning record all 3 seasons with Memphis and even though it seems as if the Kings won't have a winning season for a while, the future has a chance to be bright with Dave Joerger at the helm.
