It was reported by Sports Illustrated’s Sam Amick on Sunday that the Kings and free agent forward Matt Barnes agreed to a deal.

The 36-year old Sacramento-Native and Del Campo High School star returns to the Kings on a 2-year, $12 million deal with the second year being a player option.

Matt Barnes played for the Kings previously when he signed with the team in 2004. He played 43 games and started 9 for the Kings. He was involved in the Chris Webber trade, which sent him along with Webber to the Philadelphia 76ers. Barnes eventually made his way to the LA Lakers where he began to make a name for himself. In 2012 he returned to the Clippers where he would become their starting SF within 2 years. During his time with LAC, Barnes averaged 10.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists and shot 44.9% from the field. Barnes was traded to the Grizzlies in June of 2015. He started 45 out of the 76 games he played in, for Memphis. He averaged 10 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists per game, but shot 38.1% from the field and made only 32.2% of three pointers attempted.

Although Barnes is already 36 years old, he is still a very solid player and should do great for the Kings coming off the bench. The Kings also got him on a very cheap deal, only $6 million a year (equivalent of $4.2 million just a year ago) for 2 years.
