Is Ryan Anderson a good fit for the Kings?

Ryan Anderson during his time with the Pelicans.

With the 2016 NBA Offseason officially under way, the Sacramento Kings have a busy offseason ahead of them, with some needs around the rotation to fill. Many teams will be calling unrestricted free agent, Ryan Anderson about his services.

For the past year there have been rumors about the possibility of the former Oak Ridge High School Star and local hometown product Ryan Anderson on returning to his hometown of Sacramento to play for the Kings. Ryan has shown interest in returning to his hometown. I would assume that both sides would have mutual interest.

New Orleans Pelicans Power Forward Ryan Anderson is coming off a solid season. In 30.4 MPG, he had 17 PPG, 6.0 REB, and 1.1 AST in 66 games played despite missing some time due to an injury. He is at the age of 28 and entering his prime. He could possibly be a sharp shooting solid stretch four off the bench that the Kings could use. Ryan would be a good fit in the Kings offense. Ryan can space the floor well, draw big men out of the paint, can occasionally provide you with an offensive post up, and be the sharp shooter that he is. Also, he can rebound well on the offensive glass if a smaller defender is on him. Anderson was first on the Pelicans for the 2015-16 NBA season in true Field Goal Percentage. Although there isn't very much you get from Ryan Anderson when it comes from the defensive end, that flaw in his game is clearly shown. That isn't a good sign if you are the Kings Front Office, because this Kings team last season was one of the worst teams among the league in defense. The Kings could use some of their cap space to fill this need such as a Kent Bazemore or Matt Barnes signing that those players are types of defenders that wouldn't cost you as much (I'll save that for a different article).

If you have Anderson come off the bench in a 7th man type of role, this would be a low risk high reward type of signing. The Sacramento Kings could get him on a possible hometown discount because both sides have mutual interest. Although if you don't get him for a hometown discount you could imagine there could be room to work with for the Sacramento Front Office Kings due to the rising Salary Cap.

Yes there are most definitely some flaws in Anderson's game and there are other important areas of need for Sacramento but this acquisition would do nothing but good things for not just the Kings but for Ryan Anderson. It seems like every time he goes up against a different team in the league, they always have Anderson on top of their scouting reports because there aren't many players that are 6'10 that can shoot from all areas of the floor, while doing some work on the offensive glass. If the Kings do indeed pull the trigger and Acquire Ryan Anderson he will be a nice commodity and role player off the bench for a Sacramento Kings team that is in need of a player of his ability. With the Offseason starting it will be interesting to see who the Sacramento Kings have on their radar!
