Forward Caron Butler has exercised his player option for the 2016-2017 season and will remain on the Sacramento Kings roster, according to Sham Charania of the Vertical:
The option is reportedly worth $1,551,659.
This comes as a surprise decision. Earlier in the season there were multiple sources saying that the 36 year old veteran was unhappy with his playing time in Sacramento and requested a trade. The Kings said that they would trade Caron before the NBA Trade Deadline but it never happened. This also may come as a surprise because you would think as his career is coming to a close he would want to join a contending team to possibly win a ring before retirement.
Despite this, Caron Butler will be in a Sacramento Kings uniform for at least one more season. Caron will be one of the key veteran players on this team under new Head Coach Dave Joerger. Last season Caron didn't get many minutes under George Karl, but that will change this year. Butler will be a big part in keeping the team's chemistry together as a whole.
While moving into a new arena, having new uniforms to wear, being on a team that's hungry to make the post season again and having a front office that is looking to be moving in the right direction will be much to look forward to on the season, having Caron Butler to keep everything in check with the other players will be vital to having a successful year.
